This page is here just to keep a running tab of all of the things I have been updating on HCG. The site has gone through a major re-design in the last few months–this page will keep track of updates starting 1/26/12.
April 27, 2012: Added a section to the website on the picking hand, with a couple of lessons for starters. Check out the introduction page, a lesson on some basic strumming patterns, and an intro to alternate picking using the riffs from “Crazy Train” and “Day Tripper”. I will be working on the videos to these lessons today & tomorrow.
April 23, 2012: Added an article called “Thoughts on Talent: The 99%”. Basic premise: it’s not really “talent” that makes a guitar player great. It’s an obsessive drive to practice.
April 12, 2012: The video series that accompanies the Modes Mini-Clinic is finished, uploaded and linked. The first 5 lessons of the series have videos–that’ll be a good start for anyone who’s interested. I will probably add some more videos as I figure out the best way to approach them. But what’s there now should be enough for anyone to get a good grasp on how to use the modes.
April 9, 2012: I have finished footage for the Modes videos, just working on editing for the next day or two and will be uploading this week.
March 30, 2012: Well, that went much more quickly this time. The videos for the CAGED mini-clinic are finished, uploaded, and linked. Sorry about the low-tech production quality, but I hope you all agree that content is more important than appearance (that’s kind of the philosophy here at HCG).
March 27, 2012: After some fits & starts, and some organizational problems, I have finally finished ALL of the videos for the “Practical Music Theory” mini-clinic. There is one video to go with each page of the lesson. Next up, CAGED and the Modes.
March 12, 2012: Several videos have been added, to the first few lessons in the Practical Music Theory mini-clinic. The rest will be added this week.
March 7, 2012: Video accompaniments to lessons are FINALLY starting to roll out this week. I’m sorry it’s been such a slow process–it involved me buying a video camera and a new computer, and then finding the best way to film the videos, and learning to edit them. Now that I have the ball rolling, updates will start showing up much quicker.
Jan. 28, 2012: Added the last two pages to the Modes Mini-Clinic. Originally I planned on it just being one page, but as I put it together I realized that two pages were needed. So they’re divided into lessons 7a and 7b. They have to do with choosing a mode for a progression of 2 or more chords.
Jan. 26, 2012: Modes workshop is READY to go. I added the chord progressions that are heard in the loops, as well as some info as to how I came up with each chord progression.
