Here is a list of the musical projects that I am currently involved with here in Colorado. Click the band names for more information about each band (all links will open in a new window).
The DeadPhish Orchestra
Featuring 3 of the 4 original members of Phix, DPO has a blast mashing up the music of our two favorite bands, The Grateful Dead and Phish. Recently we played the Powellapalooza Festival in Arizona with special guest Michael Kang from the String Cheese Incident sitting in with us. With Ted Tilton (keys), Brian Adams (bass), and Chris Sheldon (drums).
Magnolia Row
Mostly original folk and bluegrass music featuring the songs of singer-songwriter Daniella Katzir. Often featuring special guests from the local bluegrass scene here in Colorado. With Daniella Katzir (guitar/vocals), Bill Browning (mandolin), and Jim Sullivan (upright bass).
Other Projects
I also occasionally play with a couple of other fantastic singer/songwriters based here in Colorado. They are not full-time gigs for me, but I play with them regularly and really enjoy the opportunity to support a great writer.
The Pete Kartsounes Band (PKB), is a mostly electric band that leans in the direction of bluegrass, but with a heavy helping of all things American–blues, jazz, swing, and even jam. Pete is an award-winning and prolific songwriter, with several CDs under his belt. I play at quite a few of Pete’s shows when he’s here in Colorado.
Olivia Rudeen is an uber-talented young singer/songwriter who I gave guitar lessons to for several years. At just 20 years old, I am blown away by her songwriting and really enjoy playing on her live shows when the opportunity comes up.
I also do occasional gigs, mostly in Boulder, with a great band called Fireweed. Patrick Latella from Whitewater Ramble leads the band and the rest of the lineup is unbelievable, often featuring Bill McKay of Leftover Salmon on keyboards.
Phix
As it stands at this moment, Phish is actively touring and reportedly writing music, and Phix (my former Phish tribute band) has no plans to re-unite. But 3 of the 4 of us still play together regularly (Brian and Chris–bass & drums–also play together in Great American Taxi), and remain friends with our keyboard player, Derek Berg, who is living in the Chicago area and running a music education studio. So we figure that one day, if the circumstances come together, Phix will probably play some shows together again some day.
